Toy Story 5 Rumors: Woody Wrongly Arrested for an Act of Domestic Terrorism
Bo Peep whispers intelligence to Woody days before he is given a one-way ticket to Guantanamo.

Disney has been teasing Toy Story 5 for the last few months, after realizing that the combined $3.3 billion the first 4 have grossed isn’t enough for Disney. To be honest, I get it. How are you supposed to realistically survive in today’s world with such a low safety net? We knew that this film was in development, but any plot details have stayed secret. That is, until yesterday when a Reddit user by the name of MinionManiac67Plus2 leaked a plot summary of the upcoming film. The post was removed almost immediately, which adds validity to the situation.

If we weren’t so confident in its legitimacy, this plot would seem a bit far-fetched. The film opens with a flash-forward sequence. We see Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, and the rest of the gang jumping out of an airplane above Cuba. They land on the rocks by the ocean, as they begin a long trek up the shore. As they walk, the camera zooms out and we see they’re walking towards the US Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. The title card appears, and then fades to black.

Without going too far with spoilers, the main plot surrounds the team on a rescue mission to save Woody. He was taken into custody for a domestic terrorism act, before being transferred to Guantanamo for questioning. We get a flashback of Woody and the gang enjoying a nice night out in Centennial Park in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympic festivities. As we all remember from Toy Story 2, Richard Jewell does not exist in the Toy Story universe. Because of this, the bomb goes off with much more collateral, and Woody is blamed.

He is taken for questioning, and there are scenes of the poor doll getting tortured by United States officials in hopes of a confession and motive. The rest of the toys begin to hatch a plan to free Woody and take him to Russia, where he can live out his days without being returned to the states.

The last details we got from the post are some casting confirmations. One of the main Guantanamo officials will be voiced by Dave Bautista, and a featured prisoner (we don’t yet know if she will be a friend or foe to Woody) will be voiced by Blake Lively. What a treat! Finally, it is rumored that Richard Kind will make an appearance, playing a live action version of himself. We don’t know how this will fit into the plot, but color us stoked!

I have to say, the tone of this film seems drastically different compared to the first four. I’m excited to see what kind of reaction a film like this gets. It is clear that the others in the series were marketed to families, and I can’t imagine that they will do the same here. Another unverified source has stated that the film will be rated R for violence, language, and graphic nudity. I guess we’ll have to wait until Disney officially releases a teaser trailer, but we will be on the edge of our seats until that day arrives.
